Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located in the Kalagayi-Zhileja Gorges of the Kunkelaqitag to the southwest of the Arharqi County, Xinjiang. It was named by the Xinjiang Geological Research Institute in 1981, and was cited officially by Wu Shaozu and Zhang Zhimin in 1985.


Lithology and Thickness

Clastics and Limestone. Composed of grey and grey-brown calcareous fine-grained sandstone and calcareous siltstone, intercalated with algal limestone, micrite, micritic calcirudite and brecciated limestone. Its base consisting of clastic rocks. Thickness is 499.7 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the reef-limestone of the underlying Kunkelaqi Fm.

Upper contact

Middle through upper Permian (etc) not present

Regional extent

Distributed in the Kunkelaqitag area.

Fossils

Fusulinida represented by Schwagerina chihsiaensis brevis, S.chihsiaensis, S. tschernyschewi, S. declinata, Schubertella paramelonica minor and Pseudofusulina crassipira; in addition, there occur Foraminifera and Brachiopoda fossils.
